A SELECTION OF STATEMENTS AS TO WHAT THE MASS IS.

Pope John-Paul II

(a) "Only the Eucharist, the true memorial of Christ's paschal mystery, is capable of keeping alive in us the memory of his love" It is, therefore, the secret of the vigilance of the church.

(b) "In the Eucharist, Christians nurture the hope of the definitive encounter with the Lord".

(c) "Christ is the bread of salvation for man, wayfarer and pilgrim on earth. In the Eucharist mystery the Risen One has wished to continue to dwell in our midst, so that every human being can know his real name his true face and experience his boundless mercy"

(d) May the Eucharist always be the centre of our lives: love it, adore it and celebrate it with respect and faith.  (To pilgrims from Senegal and Swiss Musicians-2 September 2000)

(e) Through the gift of Christ's Body and Blood may you be renewed in faith, hope and charity, and may you willingly undertake the task of witnessing to the Gospel in your daily lives. (To English speaking pilgrims)

St. Thomas Aquinas

"The Eucharist is the mystery that sums up all the marvels wrought by God for our salvation".

St. Peter Julian Eymard

Let us never forget that an age progresses or retrogresses in proportion to its devotion to the Holy Eucharist.

Council of Trent, Session X111

Before leaving this world to go to the Father, Our Saviour instituted the Sacrament in which He is as it were poured forth the riches of his love, allowing us to commemorate.
